VISUAL DESIGNER (New York, New York)
Whiting Consulting is looking for a Visual Designer NINJA for our client in the NYC area. This individual must have proven success with shipped-consumer Web products to join our client’s product team. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone passionate about designing and building innovative products. You will be a key member in a small, very talented group of software product development professionals. You will be responsible for defining and validating the user experience and user interface and ensuring that the product that gets built will be usable and will meet the needs of the target users. You will work very closely with the product designer, product manager and the lead developer to come up with the detailed product specification.
Responsibilities
Create the visual design for the product, including icons and images, colors, layouts and fonts.
Develop HTML prototypes for user testing.
Create and maintain a style guide to make sure there is design consistency throughout the product.
Work closely with the interaction designer to understand the wire frames.
Work closely with product managers to understand the business concepts.
Develop multiple comps to get feedback.
Help coordinate usability labs and use feedback to create improvements.
Requirements
A degree in Graphic Design, or related field or equivalent work experience.
3+ year's working as a visual design resource in a software product and/or web development environment required.
Excellent requirements writing skills.
Interest in making the entire product better, not just the UI.
Proven ability to create effective user interfaces for large-scale consumer internet products.
Able to understand highly complex products and present an effective and usable UI to the customer.
Experience designing Web applications.
Excellent computer skills, including design and HTML tools.
Experience with usability testing and interpretation of results.
Experience working closely with product managers and engineering teams.
Excellent written, verbal and diagrammatic communication skills.
Some proficiency in at least a few related skills (e.g., DHTML, Flash, JavaScript, Usability Testing, Graphic Design, Prototyping).
Understanding of Agile/SCRUM methodologies.
