Technical Writer (Lancaster, Pennsylvania)
Create technical documentation (instruction books and users manuals) for SW and HW products for CCTV systems (video surveillance system). This includes content creation, editing, illustration (minor creation, but manipulation), layout/DTP, proof reading.
Principal Responsibilities
Use a content management system for creation of data sheets.
Management of translations of instruction books.
Build a global glossary for both internal and translation use.
Contribute to the following:
- Design and implementation of multilingual templates for instruction books and other documents requiring multiple languages.
- Development and maintenance of a controlled English vocabulary for translation purposes.
- Development of consistent technical writing standards.
- Development of style guides.
- Development and implementation of editorial procedures, evaluation and tracking methods.
Prepare technical proposals.
Education
Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, English, Engineering or related technical field
Experience
Minimum: Minimum of 5 years technical writing experience or minimum of 5 years classroom training
Required Software: Framemaker and PhotoShop. InDesign, Freehand, Illustrator, online-help tools (like RoboHelp) and familiarity with Quark would be a plus.
Special Skills
Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and project management skills are required.
Ability to work independently and manage all aspects of a project from start to finish.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, tight deadline environment.
Must be able to guide individuals and provide constructive criticism in a professional, proactive manner.
Leadership and facilitation skills are a plus.
A definitive understanding of technical interrelationship is required.
